Hoosli, a name unfamiliar to many, is that of an ancient instrument similar to a zither. The instrument represents versatility, for it produces not only music but a feeling as well... the gentle strains of an attitude... the fire of belief... a belief of our beautiful Ukrainian heritage.

In September of 1969, a dozen or so young men organized a male chorus which would become known as the Hoosli Ukrainian Folk Ensemble. Their objectives were to encourage, promote, and preserve their Ukrainian heritage. Through the years, over 125 members have poured their hearts and souls into meeting those objectives.

Though artistic directors and choir members have changed many times over its thirty-five years, its vision has not. Through its performances in Winnipeg and all across North America, its seven recorded albums and participation in concerts with other organizations, Hoosli has shown its dedication to preserving the Ukrainian culture through song, music and dance.
