Rusalka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble

Ukrainian culture is steeped with tales of spirits that live in the mountains, forests and streams of Ukraine. Some of these spirits are known as rusalky. Lost souls, who live in rivets, lakes and marshes, rusalky are thought to be beautiful, lively and very mischievous. Rusalka: mystical, graceful and beautiful.
It is with this folklore in mind that Peter Hladun named a group of young dancers in October 1962. Since its birth, Rusalka has been capturing the imagination of audiences around the world with its often fiery, always colourful presentation of Ukrainian dance.
For more than forty years, Rusalka's repertoire has grown, representing a diverse range of regions, styles and moods. Workd-renowned choreographers have all left their mark on Rusalka and its extensive roster of dances.
From its native Winnipeg, Rusalka has expenaded its horizons to reach an ever-widening audience. Major tours throughout Asia, Europe, North America, Mexico and Ukraine, and perforamances for hears of state, religious figures and royalty, have placed Rusalka amoung the most widely recognized Ukrainian dance groups in the world.
The ensemble posesses and uncanny ability to enchant people everywhere, drawing them into the excitement and energy that is so much a part of Ukrainian culture. The spirit that was the inspiration of its founding is still alive today, helping to ensure that Rusalka remains and integral part of the world's arts community.

Zoloti Struny

Zoloti Struny - the bandura ensemble Golden Strings - is a group of accomplished bandura musicians, dedicated to the playing of Ukraine's national instrument. Their repertoire ranges from traditional Ukrainian folk songs to classical music and modern melodies. It is the ambition of the ensemble to carry on the tradition of the bandura and share this important aspect of Ukrainian music with the world.
